Monitoring Quality and Pollution of (Waste-)Water
Problem
Desalination provides a way to convert abundant saline water - primarily seawater - into potable water, offering a reliable supply independent of rainfall or dwindling freshwater reserves.
Solution
Quantum-enhanced spectrometers and hyperspectral sensors offer a significant improvement by providing high sensitivity down to parts per trillion (ppt) and a broad spectral range. Another option could be NV-based nano NMR technologies to detect polluting molecules based on their magnetic resonance.
Impact
A more comprehensive analysis of water pollution enables the detection of a wider array of contaminants at much lower concentrations and an improved identification of pollution sources. Ultimately, this contributes to better water quality assessment and more effective strategies for environmental protection and sustainable water management.
