Monitoring of Illegal Deforestation

Problem

Detecting illegal deforestation over vast, remote forest areas is very challenging. Satellite and remote-sensing data produce huge image volumes; classical image-analysis or mission-planning methods struggle to scale quickly or detect subtle forest-cover changes early.

Solution

Use quantum computing (quantum-enhanced image classification or optimisation) to process large earth-observation datasets: e.g. apply quantum-based image segmentation / classification to spot forest-cover change, or quantum-optimised satellite mission-planning to schedule observations so high-risk areas are monitored frequently.

Impact

Faster, more accurate detection of deforestation, enabling near-real-time alerts, more effective enforcement, and better protection of forests and biodiversity before illegal logging spreads.
