Analysing Resilience of Water Distribution Networks

Problem

In order to determine the resilience of water distribution networks it is necessary to A) define disruption scenarios (along with a probability of damage), B) define the response and mitigation actions, C) compute topographic, hydraulic, water quality metrics.

Solution

One algorithm that is used frequently in those calculations is the Newton-Raphson Global Gradient Algorithm (NR-GGA). This algorithm could be accelerated using quantum computing.

Impact

Improving the analysis tools can lead to more resilient water networks to ensure the continued delivery of safe and sufficient water under a wide range of disruptive events.
